Unit 2.1 The Internet and the Web

Unit 2.1 The Internet and the Web

The goal of the lesson is to understand the Internet as a set of computers exchanging bits in the form of packets and to identify the components of your digital footprint. You will compare the designs, strengths, and weaknesses of your favorite web pages. From an unplugged activity, you will understand (in broad brushstrokes) the content and flow of data when you browse the Web. You will compare results from different search engines and refine your search techniques. You will assess the trustworthiness of web-based media and consider the data flow that permits targeted advertisements. You will employ tools to explore the Internet addressing systems: DNS and IP. You will identify ways that a web developer’s decisions affect the user and ways that the user’s decisions impact society.
