2017 Bezos Scholars

We are thrilled to announce that two remarkable people from your school, Kaetlyn Rodriguez and Susan Brakel have been selected to be 2017 Bezos Scholars. Bezos Scholars are a cohort of 12 exceptional U.S. rising high school seniors, 12 visionary U.S. educators, and five outstanding students and an educator from the African Leadership Academy in South Africa.

Together, these 30 Scholars participate in a year-long leadership development program that kicks-off at the Aspen Ideas Festival and culminates in a community change project to raise awareness and mobilize action in their local community.

This prestigious, all-expenses-paid scholarship begins with a week at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Aspen, Colorado (June 24 June 30, 2017). At the Festival, Scholars participate in seven days of panel discussions, workshops and round tables with international leaders, thinkers, policymakers and activists in addition to leadership training. During the coming school year, each student and educator team will apply for a $1,000 grant to create a Local Ideas Festival focused on an intersection of a true community need.
